ITR-V Download & Verification
Learn how to download your ITR-V acknowledgement, complete ITR e-verification and check your income-tax return status through the official e-Filing portal.
What Is ITR-V (Income Tax Return–Verification)?
ITR-V is the Income Tax Return–Verification acknowledgement associated with an electronically filed income-tax return.
ITR-V stands for Income Tax Return–Verification. It is an acknowledgement generated when you electronically file your income-tax return.
If you choose to verify your return later, ITR-V can be used for the physical verification process. However, merely uploading an ITR does not complete the verification requirement.
You can generally verify your return through an eligible electronic method or by submitting a duly signed physical ITR-V to the Income Tax Department's Centralised Processing Centre (CPC), following its current instructions.
Verify Your ITR Online
If your ITR is successfully verified using an approved electronic method, you do not need to send a signed physical ITR-V separately.
Depending on eligibility and the available portal options, electronic methods include:
- Aadhaar OTP
- EVC through an eligible pre-validated bank account
- EVC through a demat account or supported ATM
- Net banking
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), where applicable
Verify Using Physical ITR-V
If your return remains unverified and you choose physical verification, download the ITR-V, sign it and submit it according to the prescribed procedure.
The Income Tax Department specifies the following CPC address for submission:
Centralised Processing Centre
Income Tax Department
Bengaluru – 560500
Karnataka, India
The signed form must be received by CPC within the applicable time limit.
ITR-V Verification Deadline: Usually 30 Days
Under the general rule, taxpayers have 30 days from filing their ITR to complete e-verification or submit their duly signed ITR-V.
For physical submission, the date CPC receives the verified ITR-V is relevant when determining whether the deadline has been met.
Late verification may affect the effective filing date and lead to consequences under the applicable income-tax provisions. If verification is delayed, check whether a condonation request is available.
Quick takeaway: If your ITR has already been successfully e-verified, there is generally no need to post a physical ITR-V. If verification is pending, complete it using an eligible online method or the prescribed physical process.

What Is ITR-V?
ITR-V stands for Income Tax Return–Verification. It is an acknowledgement associated with an income-tax return submitted through the official e-Filing portal.
The ITR-V document contains important details such as the taxpayer's PAN, relevant assessment year, acknowledgement number and other filing information, depending on the applicable format.
ITR-V is not the same as your complete filed ITR or a tax computation statement. A computation explains how income, deductions and tax liability were calculated. If you need that separate document, see how to download an ITR computation statement.
ITR-V also does not confirm refund approval or successful return processing. An ITR may be filed and acknowledged while verification is still pending.
To complete the filing-verification process, the return must be verified through an approved electronic method or the prescribed physical ITR-V procedure, as applicable.
When Is ITR-V Generated?
An ITR-V acknowledgement is associated with an electronically filed income-tax return. It can be particularly relevant in the following situations.
Already e-Verified? If your return status shows "Successfully e-Verified", you generally do not need to send a physical ITR-V. However, successful verification does not necessarily mean the return has already been processed.

ITR-V Password: How to Open the PDF
Some downloaded income-tax documents may be password-protected to protect taxpayer information. The password format can depend on the document and the applicable portal instructions.
PAN + Date of Birth Password Format
The Income Tax Department documents the following password format for AIS PDF. It is sometimes suggested for other tax PDFs, but should not be assumed to work for every ITR-V.
For a non-individual taxpayer, the corresponding date of incorporation or formation may be used where the document's instructions specify that format.
What If the PDF Does Not Open?
Important: The PAN + DOB combination above is officially documented for AIS PDFs. If it does not open your ITR-V, do not assume the PDF is invalid. Check the download instructions or the Income Tax Department's helpdesk.
What Information Is Available in ITR-V?
An ITR-V acknowledgement provides important information relating to your filed income-tax return. The exact fields depend on the assessment year and applicable form format.
Taxpayer name
Permanent Account Number (PAN)
Assessment year
ITR form number and filing section
Return acknowledgement number
Filing date or submission details
Reported total income or other summary figures
Summary tax payable or refundable amount, where shown
Verification or signature-related details, as applicable
Note: ITR-V is not a detailed deduction schedule or full tax-working statement. To review your complete declared information, download the filed ITR PDF separately from View Filed Returns.
The latest verification and processing status should be checked on the e-Filing portal, rather than inferred solely from an old downloaded PDF.
ITR-V vs ITR Computation
ITR-V is an official filing acknowledgement used for verification purposes. An ITR computation explains how taxable income and tax liability are calculated.
| Basis | ITR-V | ITR Computation |
|---|---|---|
| Main Purpose | Filing acknowledgement and physical verification where applicable. | Detailed calculation of income and tax. |
| Content | Filing identifiers and summary tax information. | Income, adjustments, deductions, tax credits and final calculation. |
| ITR Verification | A duly signed ITR-V can be used for physical verification where permitted. | Cannot be used to verify an ITR. |
| Full Tax Working | No. | Normally yes, depending on the computation format. |
| Document Source | Income Tax Department's e-Filing system. | Tax software or tax professional. May be prepared before or after filing. |
Do You Need to Send ITR-V After E-Verification?
No. If your ITR has already been successfully e-verified, you generally do not need to send a signed physical ITR-V to CPC.
Check your return's verification status through the official e-Filing portal and retain the acknowledgement for your records.
Available Electronic Verification Methods
Aadhaar OTP
Verify using an OTP sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar, subject to eligibility.
Bank Account EVC
Use an eligible pre-validated, EVC-enabled bank account.
Demat Account EVC
Generate or use an EVC through an eligible pre-validated demat account.
Net Banking
Verify through supported net-banking access, subject to portal and bank requirements.
Bank ATM EVC
Generate an EVC using a supported bank's ATM facility, where available.
Digital Signature Certificate
Use DSC where permitted or required. For the normal portal process, DSC verification is performed immediately after filing.
Verification deadline: The general time limit is 30 days from filing the return. If the return remains unverified beyond the permitted period, late-verification consequences may apply.
Successfully e-verified does not necessarily mean the ITR has been processed or that a refund has been approved.

Bengaluru – 560500
Karnataka, India
This is the address currently published in the Income Tax Department's ITR-V FAQs. For detailed postal guidance, see the guide to sending ITR-V to CPC Bengaluru. Check the latest official instructions before posting.
Important: CPC Must Receive the Form
The relevant date for physical verification is when the duly verified ITR-V is received at CPC, not merely when you dispatch it.
If the deadline is close, an eligible electronic verification method may avoid postal delivery delays.
ITR-V Verification Time Limit
For returns uploaded on or after 1 August 2022, the general time limit for e-verification or submission of signed ITR-V is 30 days from filing the return. The earlier limit was 120 days.
If verification is completed after the prescribed period, the effective filing date may change and late-filing implications may arise.
If verification is overdue, check whether condonation of delay is available. Approval is discretionary, not automatic.
Read the Income Tax Department's official e-verification guidance before taking action.

What Happens If ITR-V Is Not Submitted on Time?
An electronically filed return must be verified through an eligible method. Failure to verify it within the applicable period can have consequences.
- The return may remain unverified and may be treated as invalid if verification requirements are not met.
- Processing and any refund arising from the return may be delayed.
- Late verification can affect the date treated as the return's filing date.
- A condonation request may be required, subject to eligibility and departmental approval.
- Late-filing consequences may apply depending on the relevant facts.
Missed the deadline? The official portal provides a Services → Condonation Request facility for eligible delayed-verification cases. Submission does not guarantee approval.
Common ITR-V Problems and Solutions
I Cannot Download My ITR-V
Confirm the correct assessment year, acknowledgement number and filing status. Refresh your session, sign in again and use View Filed Returns.
My ITR-V PDF Is Not Opening
Check the password instructions supplied with that document. Do not assume every ITR-V uses the PAN + DOB format. Download a fresh PDF and try an updated PDF reader if needed. Avoid unofficial PDF-unlock websites.
My ITR-V Shows Incorrect Information
Do not manually edit the acknowledgement. Compare the information with the filed ITR and check whether a revised return, updated return or another permitted correction process is applicable.
I Posted ITR-V but Status Is Unchanged
Check the postal tracking where available, retain dispatch evidence and review the portal periodically. If CPC receipt is not reflected, use official support channels and consider the applicable deadline.
My ITR Is Already e-Verified
You generally do not need to send a physical ITR-V. Save the verification confirmation and check the return's processing status.
My Verification Deadline Has Expired
Check whether the Condonation Request service is available for your return. Provide an accurate reason and follow departmental instructions. Approval is not automatic.
